(Port) Wine of the month July 2018: Wine & Soul Guru 2013

With summer on steroids it is – even for me – quite tough to properly enjoy a Douro red or even a Port. Dirk Niepoort’s former enologist Jorge Borges bottles his first white growth “Guru” since 2008. In 2013 he succeeded in making the best Guru so far and the best Douro White wine for this year: Medium yellow color with slight green reflections on the rim. Intense toasty bouquet with some complex yellow fruit aromas in the back. The palate is structured with perfectly supporting acidity and balanced yellow fruits. Medium length in the aftertaste. Perfect at a Douro restaurant with grilled Octopus. 18/20
